    Council to consider police contract


    Years in the making, an agreement between the City of San Marcos and the San Marcos Police Officers’ Association (SMPOA) appears to be at hand. The city would guarantee raises of more than $1.25 million over three years for the current 95 San Marcos police officers. The San Marcos City Council will consider the agreement Monday night.

    A race is on for the Republican nomination for Hays County Judge now that San Marcos surgeon Bert Cobb has announced his candidacy.







    Senate hopeful swings through San Marcos


    A leading Democratic candidate for a Senatorial seat that’s not even open swept through San Marcos Wednesday, speaking separately with Texas State students and the San Marcos Area Democrats (SMAD). Houston Mayor Bill White, a Democrat, expressed support for federal funding of “clean energy” technology and for making education the “number one priority” of the federal government.







    Conley appointed to state juvenile panel


    Texas Governor Rick Perry has appointed Hays County Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley (R-San Marcos) to the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission (TJPC).







    County tries to escape kitchen closure


    The Hays County Commissioners Court hopes to persuade the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) to revise an order to shut down the county jail’s kitchen. At the least, the commissioners could make the penalty moot by procedural means.







    Texas State digs Collins


    Texas State recently announced that archeologist Michael Collins, director of the world renowned Gault archeological site in Central Texas, has joined its faculty in the Department of Anthropology.







    SMPD to hold community meetings


    In response to public concerns about recent shooting crimes in the city, the San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) will hold four community meetings to discuss its steps for keeping the city safe.
